Tomato Stack and Tasty Tuesday Party

Pin ItOk....Its time to get serious!! I'm am ONE follower away from a giveaway!!! I would love to be posting the giveaway TOMORROW! (We DID it!!! Giveaway up Wed. night!!!)
also, mark your calendars... Tasty Tuesday becomes Tasteful Tuesdays on Aug. 6th.

Today I am sharing an amazing recipe. I saw the idea in cooking light... but this creation is my own adaptation!

You will need:
Four Large Tomatoes
Bacon or Bacos (two pieces for each tomato)
1 Avacado
1 ear of corn (on or off the cobb)
fresh basil (optional)
for sauce:
½ cup Mayonnaise
2 TBS white vinegar
1TBS milk (to thin the sauce)
1 large clove of minced garlic (or 1 TBS out of a jar)
1 TBS dry or fresh diced basil
pinch of salt
Combine all the ingredients for the sauce and place to the side. Slice the tomato in four thick slices. If you have corn on the cob, grill on the grill until lightly brown. Or place corn kernels in a pan and sauté with olive oil until browned (like my picture). Slice the avocado and cook the bacon until crispy. Assemble the stack with layers. I just put the avocado and sauce in the middle and corn and bacon on the top. Garnish with more sauce and fresh basil leaves. I had to cut it all up to eat, but it was delicious!
Now, lets see what you were all up to this last week. I am constantly amazed... OH... SO many of you are no reply bloggers!!! I get so sad when I can't respond to your kind comments through e-mail. If you don't know how to change this setting you can Google it for many tutorials (or see THIS one) I do try to respond to each comment...

Knit Squares Crocheted Together {Tutorial} Baby Blanket

Are you following?? getting closer to 300 followers, join now! Giveaway coming....
Remember....Aug 7th Tasty Tuesday becomes... TASTEFUL TUESDAY! There will be two parties... one for food and one for crafts. Plan now to join the fun!
Today I have a knitted/crochets blanket to share with you. The BEST part... I'm donating it to PROJECT LINUS!
Now... here's how I did it.
1. I knit 9 squares from leftover yarn. I love making a blanket like this, you can use different yarn, colors and weights all in one blanket. Just make sure they are pretty close to the same size!
2. Crochet the squares together. I used gray yarn, and first went down the vertical seams. Weave in ends as you go.
3. inbetween each square I chain two... to give a bit of space so when I crochet the other direction I can go over/under the chain.
4. vertical seams done.
5. Do the same on the horizontal seams. Go either under or over the chain 2 in each gap. You should have a solid blanket now.
6. edge it! I did a single crochet around the outside weaving in all left ends. I also added a little scalloped edge. Start at the beginning single crochet, skip one stitch, double crochet 5 times in next stitch, skip one single crochet (repeat) You may have to skip more than one to get the desired edging look.

Yep... its ANOTHER pasta salad. But, who isn't into fresh food for summer time?!? I love having a meal that I can make and eat for a couple of days with no cooking!
I used:
1 box of veggie enriched spiral pasta (one full serving of vegtables!)
2 small cans shopped black olives
1/2  mild onion finely chopped
1 cup feta cheese
1 can of artichoke hearts chopped
1/2 cup virgin olive oil
Italian seasoning to taste
YUM!!!
Best when it sits for a couple of hours so the flavors can mix.

WOW, so many great links last week, I'm SO inspired! I love cooking in the summer, so many fresh ingredients.

Dying to share.... {Front loading washer fabric dying tips}

Here are a few things I learned from my first front load washer dying experience.
  • read a few how-tos online
  • dilute the dye in hot water
  • wet the clothes, then put in the washer
  • set to the hot/cold heavy duty wash setting (mine was a 57 min cycle)
  • push start on the washer, and then slowly add the dye/water mix to the laundry detergent slot.
  • no need to pause the cycle, they came out perfect!
  • You can dye a darker color next without cleaning the machine. I did pink first, then the purple, then blue with no in-between cleaning.
  • clean with some old towels and diluted bleach. (1 cup bleach diluted) Pore the bleach in to the detergent slot after the wash starts. I just used a quick cycle to clean. (towels didn't seem to get any dye on them, or bleach spots)
  • dye that gets on the outside of the washer can be cleaned up with bleach. I wiped and it didn't look like it was working, but after a few minutes the dye mark disappeared!
  • the dye job comes out much more even than my sink or pot dying.
  • I WILL BE DOING THIS AGAIN ;o)

Cousin Clothes #3

Year number three in my attempt to make cute things for the cousins!
1st year: the baby romper didnt fit at all, I had to cut it down the side to get him in for a picture! opps!
2nd year: I used my super popular Overall Pattern to make matching outfits. The fit was much better this time, although taking pictures was pretty difficult!
And now for this year....
I used my pocket shorts pattern and the MADE ruffle skirt to create:

I grew up with NO cousins (can you believe it??? My parents both had siblings, but none had kids) so it is SO FUN for me to see the kids have fun with their cousins. On the other side of the family we had these shirts for our time together.
(My boys are in yellow!)

Greek Layer Dip and Tasty Tuesday Party

First, I have a couple of announcements....
1. Great giveaway coming soon!! Are you a follower? Looking for 300 so I can giveaway a yard of my custom fabric!
2. On Aug. 6th Tasty Tuesday will be come Tasteful Tuesday and I will have TWO parties... one for food and one for crafts! I will do features for both parties each week as well. Spread the word!

Now... I was inspired by THIS link last week and created my very own version of a
GREEK LAYER DIP

I layered:
Hummas
feta
Olives (I left one corner without for my husband who doesn't like them)
Chopped veg ( yellow pepper, onion, cucumber, tomatoes and artichokes)
We ate it with pita chips and it was amazing!
I found it slightly bland, so I would recommend adding some more spice or a flavored hummas.

And now onto your delicious goodness! I really appreciate those of you who put a link back to this blog or post directly in your linked post! So thankful!!!

Yoke Tank {maternity version}

So close to 300 followers! Would love to be doing a giveaway next week! can we do it???

Pin ItEarlier this spring when I posted my Yoke Tank Pattern I said I was also working on a pregnancy version. I've now given both of the maternity tanks I made to the intended ladies...so I can share it with you. I took the basic idea from my previous pattern, and adapted to the needed size.
I asked the girls to measure around the bust and from chest to shoulder for me. From there I adapted the pattern pieces and increased the size of the front bottom panel.
The original  pattern was the top... the bottom is the shape of the maternity tops. Please leave any questions in the comments, I will answer!

A Year of Onesies {tutorial}

****NOTE: Why didn't anyone tell me I've been spelling onesies (onsies) wrong????** :o)
At the shower last week, I gave my sister a onesie for every month of the first year. I've seen a lot of these around as parents take pictures each month. And this is my version! Pin It
I realized a bit too late (after I had them all dyed yellow...) that I probably didn't need so many. I could have just had one of each size with removable numbers. But, they look SO cute, and now my sister has lots of onesies! I went with these colors because she doesn't know the gender.
Doesn't the 0 look SO tiny? I love little onsies!
Here's how I did it:
13 onsies of various sizes.
1 newborn
3: 0-3 month
3: 3-6 month
3: 6-9 month
3: 9-12
I prefer carters onsies or some of the other made by carters brands like just one you. I find that the gerber brand runs really small...
Dye your onsies to the color you want.
(I will be sharing some front load washer dying tips next week!)
I cut out all all my numbers with coordinating felt and used a darker shade of embroidery thread. I wanted my sister to have the option to take the number off and re-use the onsie if she wanted so I did most of the stitching off the shirt.
I left the outer stitches to attach the number to the onsie.
I just eyed up the placement.
And stitched on the number with the same stitches as I had already been using.
finished product!

I love the way they turned out and my sister is so excited about them!
