Octopus Holders...

We travel primarily on Public transportation here... so all the kids need a place to hold their Octopus Card (as the transit card is called). I like to give something like this for a third birthday gift.
(when you turn three you have to start paying!)

Here are a couple of holders I made for upcoming birthdays..

A Kids' Hideaway! {tutorial}

Now, that our new place has a bit more space...we decided to make a play area in the boys bedroom. We took out the changing table that was also under the loft bed and made a...

All you need is a little place to make into the fort, material to cover the opening, floral wire (or any kind) and a suspension rod.
I first cut the material the size of the opening, plus room to hem around the edge. I also made a casing at the top for the rod to fit through.
Now, I wanted to add a window for light and fun, but I needed to edge it so it wouldn't collapse.
Here is where I used white floral wire. Its a bit hard to see, so I added arrows.
I cut out the center an inch from the wire. (my son was leaping over the material just as I snapped the photo.)
Snip the corners...

Sew or HOT GLUE the wire to the fabric and the fabric to itself folded over. (I used hot glue!)
Now you have a fabulous fort, with a fabulous window! I'm planning make a cardboard kitchen to go in this space someday... anyone ever personally made one? I have some ideas, but I need tips!

Chick Pea Curry and Tasty Tuesday Party

I found this recipe in a magazine while sitting in a Drs. waiting room years ago. I've since tweaked it so much I'm not sure how much it is even like the original, but its yummy! It was in some sort of health magazine, so its also good for you. So here you go!

You will need:
1 Med. Onion (diced)
3 TBS Olive oil
2 Carrots (chopped)
2 TBS Curry Powder (I double this)
1 tsp salt
1 Med Head of Cauliflower (chopped)
1 can Chick Peas (or garbanzo beans) (I think they are the same thing?)
1 cup 0 or low fat greek yogurt (you can use regular plain yogurt, but you have to strain out the moisture)
2 cups Chicken broth (maybe a bit more if needed)
3 Potatoes (cubed)

In a large fry pan or wok cook the onion, potatoes and carrots in olive oil for 10-12 min. Stir in curry powder, salt and cook 3 min. Add broth, heat to a boil, add the cauliflower and beans. Cook 10 min. (or until everything is soft) Add yogurt- Serve over Brown rice.
In this dinner I served with a store bought roti, but I also make homemade naan sometimes... a recipe for another day!

Easy..Last-Minute Fathers Day gift

ok...I know I said I was only posting Tues-Thur-Sat...but I am squeezing this one in before we leave tonight.
I shared HERE  last year about my yearly fathers day tradition. I love having one go-to gift and just updating it each year. Here's the latest version. (I didn't choose the boys happiest day ever for the shoot, can you tell?)

Photo Collage done in Picasa... Print 8x10 goes into frame on my husbands desk.... GREAT GIFT EVERY TIME!
A few years ago I picked up a D and and A at Hobby Lobby (yep, I was too cheap to get two D's) and I just shoot with those. This year I had the boys together hold a blank sheet of paper, which I added text to later in Picasa.
YES, you even still have time to do this for Sunday! Photo shoot, quick edit, 1 hr. photo....done!
Here are previous years...

Happy Fathers Day to my AMAZING husband!
