Flashback Friday: Felt Easter Basket {tutorial}

Today I have a fun project from the vault... Easy, fun and entirely customizable for your Easter needs... (size, color, etc...) Weave felt to create your very own woven felt Easter basket!

 I'm SO excited to share this tutorial with you today. I've been wanting to make Easter Baskets for couple of years now... they boys are getting older, so I finally did it. I LOVE the result. Growing up we had adorable baskets that my Grandma made and I wanted to have something homemade for my boys as well.

We did a test run egg hunt and they worked great!

 

Want to make one?

 Start with 10 strips of felt. (the stiffer the better!) You can see in the picture that mine were about 19 x 1, but you can make it any size.

 Begin by weaving the bottom of the basket.

 The dark blue sides are the same width, but longer. I didn't measure... but you can estimate by measuring around the base to see the size you need.

 Pin the ends together to keep the piece in place while you go up. Keep the weave as tight as possible and keep pinning the ends together as you go. Keep all the ends in the same place, you will cover these with the handle.

 

When the basket is the right height, pin around the top and trim the ends.

 Cut a piece 2 inches by the circumference of the basket (again... sorry, didn't measure mine...)

 Sew up the  side... you don't have to be neat, this part will be covered later.

 Pin and hand sew the top on, lining the seam with the side seam...

 Without the handle...

 My handle is about 1 1/2 inches. Measure how tall you want the handle and also to cover the bottom of the basket. Cut two, one for the outside and one for the inside. Pin

 Sew the handle to the basket, then decide how you want the top... I played around with twists and frills, but in the end I just folded each of the two parts in half and  pinned together. sew as desired

 I also added names...

 This one has a two tone handle

 I really like the finished result!
