Garlic Peanut Noodle & Sweet Potato Fries

Here was our dinner last night. YUM! I make these fries all the time, but the noodles were new. I thought I would share!

Sweet Potato Fries:
Peel and slice the sweet potatoes, toss in a small amount of olive oil and bake in the oven for 45-55 min. You want the outside to be slightly brown and dry. I think they are more like dessert than veggie.

Garlic Peanut Noodle:
2 tsp Sesame Seeds
3/4 cup chunky peanut butter
1/4 cup chicken broth
4 cloves garlic chopped very fine
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
8 oz. noodles (spaghetti, or vermicelli)
2 TBS Asian sesame oil
1 Onion (sliced thin)
Greens of some sort (I used Bok Choy and Choy Sum)
Meat? I used beef.

Toast the sesame seeds in a small skillet over medium heat. Let cool and use as a garnish. (I forgot to use when I took the photo)

Saute the sliced onion with a bit of oil and half the garlic until soft.

Combine all the  other ingredients to make the sauce (minus the noodles, greens and meat). Blend for a moment in the blender, but the mix should still be a little chunky.

Toss the cooked pasta with the sauce, (steamed greens) and sauteed meat. Remember the garnish of seeds and EAT!

my first flower!

I have seen so many tutorials on making fabric flowers... I can't really see myself wearing one, so I haven't attempted this project. However, I am making a girly outfit as a gift for my niece and am including a hairpiece. I LOVE this flower... maybe I can see myself wearing one...in fact I modeled this one for you! This is going to be my new go-to gift for girls!

Cambodian Fabric Market

We just returned from a spring break trip to Cambodia. We were there visiting friends and its a short flight from here in Hong Kong. We had a wonderful week soaking up the sun and sand AND I was able to go to a great fabric market there. It was an amazing place and I wish I had girls to sew for because there were some great flower prints! Enjoy a peak at my walk through the market.

Jess and I (with babies) in the market.

sew sad...

My sewing machine is acting up... I took it in a couple of weeks ago to be fixed and it's still not working right. I'm now thinking that the problem is with the electric converter I use.... Whatever the problem, my project list keeps getting longer and I'm not able to sew! We have spring break next week, so hopefully when we get back I will be in business! Until then here's what I hope to accomplish soon!
Pants for my boys with flat fronts! (aren't they adorable!)
A Circle Skirt for my niece

Finish this duck towel... I'm SO close! Will have a tutorial to go with it.

Chew pads for the side of my Ergo Carrier (in a cute material, of course!)

Make a t-shirt quilt for my husbands birthday ( I have all the shirts cut up and ironed onto interfacing... just need to sew!) Mine will look similar to this as all the pieces are different sizes.
Can't wait to get started!!! Let's hope I can figure out the problem soon.

Feature Friday- Wall Canvas

It's time for another reader feature! Today we have Ellen with her fantastic Wall Canvas Art. I wish I had more wall space as I have so many ideas that could be made. If YOU want to be featured HERE...E-mail me at emilyrschroeder(at)hotmail(dot)com and I'll get you set up. All I need is photos and a description... or a link to your already finished blog post with your favorite project. SO....
Ellen Says:
First I got nine 10x10 canvases and painted them a solid tan color. Then I ripped pieces of paper and glued them on the canvas. I drew with a pencil the designs that I wanted and then painted them blue. I outlined all the blue with a light tan to make the design pop. Its a simple craft, but so fun and looks great on the wall!

baby onsies

As I said I had two baby showers last week. Here are the onsies I made as a gift for one of the new mothers. I feel like a need to explain this first one...
We live in Hong Kong and the older people here REALLY seem to love to touch the little white babies... Especially when you are out on public transportation, so this saying seemed fitting. Not so much the paranoid part, but the no touching :o)
And I just thought this saying was adorable. I need to make shirts like this for my boys!

On another note: My family is coming in tonight (YEAH!) so posting will be light for the next week or so... I am looking for more Feature Friday posters though... Let me know if you are interested.

Today we have a great project from Gretchen!
She copied this subway sign from Restoration Hardware.
Inspiration Photo:
Painting...She did an incredible job!

Adding the street names.... She used all the streets where she and her huband have lived, plus where they grew up.
Don't you just love the way it looks in her house???? I want one!

Baby Bunting

I'm attending two baby showers this week, so I thought I would make a couple of cute signs. I made two so the moms can take them home to hang. I printed out the letters using Picnik, then just used paper and glue for the rest. My sewing machine is in the shop, so it was a great non-sewing project.
