Baby boy leg warmers-tutorial

When my little one rides in the baby carrier, which is ALL the time, he has some exposed leg. Its chilly here these days, so I looked up some leg warmer tutorials, added my own twist, and we now have warm legs! Here's my version; it's more of a leg stirrup pant.
1. Start with long socks, you can get them on clearance for great prices!
2. I cut a V, just above the heel of the sock.

4. Turn the raw edge under and sew using a zig-zag or serger.

5. Sew the two points of the V together, by laying one on top of the other and stitching to make a flat seam.
Finished Product!
Finished and on chubby baby legs!

final step... I just slip the little shoes over the warmer and feet AND ankles are toasty!

No more exposed skin while in the carrier!

Friday Catch-up

It seems that the things I have worked on this week didn't really deserve their own posts, so I'll just do a round up today!
Another issue is our household napping routine: all out of whack! My two year old is having trouble falling asleep, and my four month old has started thinking that 30 min. naps are all he needs! ;o) I spend half my day putting him down for these catnaps! Despite this I have gotten a few things done this week.
1. I am loving this new cook book that I got! I made a delicious Benihanas Noodle dish that was a hit with everyone!
I also made these yummy Potato Balls! I think I made my mashed potatoes a little too soft though as I had trouble balling them. They weren't as pretty at Kara's, so I didn't take pictures.
2. Catching up on scrapbooks. I am making a scrapbook for each of my children. I don't do all our pictures, because we have WAY too many. For the boys first year of life, I do a page a month and then after that two pages per year. Just enough to get the scrapbook bug out, but not too much that it's overwhelming. Anyway, I hadn't even started my four months book, so I was able to get several pages done this week.

3. Stroller recover. Our little play stroller was in dire need to a new basket. I didn't take a picture, but the old one had a large hole in it. So the rocks, cars or sticks that were being hauled in it, fell out! The canopy is still the original fabric, I just made the new bottom. Should be good to go as long as the duct tape continues to hold the frame together :o)

Some baby things..

Some projects come out of nessesity...
Like cold weather and a little baby with chilly hands...
And drool, which constantly pours out of the little guys mouth...
I made both bibs and little bandanas to catch the wet!

freezer paper stencil tutorial

I made another batch of Big/Little Brother shirts this week for some friends having babies so I thought I would give a tutorial while I was at it. I have several friends having 2nd/3rd babies so I thought these shirts would make great gifts. I will be making a girly batch soon! Okay, I know there are tons of tutorials out there on how to do this, but here's my method.
1. I bought all white shirts and onsies because it was the cheapest way to go. So, first I had to die them blue. I used RIT Royal Blue die and I LOVE the color!
2. Print out or draw what you want to paint on the shirt. Cut out the outermost edge first. Save the inner parts though as you made need some of them.

3. Iron the paper onto the shirt, shinny side down. You can place the iron directly onto the paper. After you have the outside on, place and iron any small inner pieces.

4. Paint away! You don't have to be neat at all (which I love!). Make sure to get everywhere and along the edges.

5. Peel off the large paper first.

6. Then pull off any smaller inner pieces.
7. Finally, you can embellish your painting with anything you want. Sewing, buttons, etc... I handstitched on the letters to add details.

Homemade Gifts...

Here's peak at some of the homemade gifts I gave away this Christmas. I had a busy, and fun fall working on
them!
The growth chart and ornaments. I made four of these.

The last of the felt food, made the last week before we headed out for Christmas :o) Yummy Pizza!

I made this dog towel for my nephew, he didn't want anything to do with it, but my niece modeled it nicely!
I also made a few ornaments. I used this super light clay I found in my local stationary store and then finished them off with Modge Podge. I think they turned out great!

These two I made by covering a plastic ornament. One with a long snake wound around, and the other with a sheet of white, then I added the tree.

Christmas Tree Growth Chart

One of the gifts that I made this Christmas is this Tree Growth Chart. I had so much fun with this project. From picking out the material, laying it all out, making the ornaments and giving them away! The idea is that each Christmas you measure how tall you little one(s) are and place an ornaments with their initials at that height.
Here's a collage of the four trees I made:

A close up of the hanger and star

The rulers on both side give the feet and inch markers
A pocket on the back holds the ornaments.

Here's a peak at a few... I made enough for fifteen for each child in the house of each recipient. I figure some kids are already a few years old and some will be off the chart by their teens anyway. I hand stitched each ornament and just told everyone to hot glue them to the tree.
I ended up having to do more sewing than I had planned. I wanted to just glue the yellow ribbon to each side, but the glue showed through the satin, so I had to sew it down the side.
Check me Out Sat.
